Advanced Training
Botox injection training is a good starting point for beauty therapists entering the world of injectable cosmetic procedures. Botox is the most popular injectable cosmetic procedure by far and it is an effective treatment for certain types of wrinkles.
Botox is primarily useful for treating dynamic wrinkles, those wrinkles that form upon facial expression. The areas most suited to treatment include the crow’s feet, frown lines and forehead wrinkles. Botox can be used to treat mild static lines, however it is not an effective treatment by itself for deep static wrinkles.
Beauty therapists will find that in order to truly give clients a good cosmetic result, they will need to be skilled in application of dermal fillers in addition to Botox. Dermal fillers are a group of injectable substances, such as hyaluronic acid, which are used to physically fill the dermis and in this manner minimise wrinkles. As opposed to Botox, dermal fillers can produce good results for even deep static wrinkles. Apart from wrinkle treatments, dermal fillers can also be used to augment and enhance various facial features, including the cheeks and lips. Therefore, dermal filler training is another important qualification for beauty therapists.
Another add-on qualification that beauty therapists should consider is dental block training. The reason for this is that some injectable treatments require application of local anaesthetic injections using techniques known as dental blocks. This is particularly true for lip augmentation by dermal fillers.
Beauty therapists who have significant experience in the field of injectable aesthetics may also consider further advanced training in Botox and dermal filler injections. These courses should ideally be undertaken only after practitioners have gained several years of experience.
